BalVikas : A peep into the activities

by   Bhuvana Natrajan

Snowy days ... yet, Bal Vikas in full session!! What is the hot pursuit? TRUTH!

The theme for February was ' TRUTH'. How do you define " TRUTH"? In the words of Bal Vikas kids it is 'not telling lies', 'being honest - owning up a mistake when committed'…. Many stories emphasizing these values were told. The children shared their own experiences of having told or not told the truth. Embarrassing as it could be, the Bal Vikas kids and parents were forthcoming in accepting that there were few times when they did not speak the Truth. Once the values were explained, they were given a chance to rethink and then give their own opinion. Mrs. Atul Deewan helped the kids to enact the play ' The Boy who cried Wolf !Wolf!"

The children had the opportunity to participate in a role-play session. They were asked "What would they do if they were Kamsa? The children unanimously answered that they would try to be a better person by consciously doing good deeds and be truthful. Attempting to show the lighter side of Truth, many childhood pranks of Lord Krishna were read to the children.

Simplified Yoga to energize the body extended to the hands, legs and eyes this month and many more are yet to come. Innovative games using characters from Krishna and Ramayana continue to be the grand finale of the Bal Vikas session.

Our kids had the opportunity to meet with the Bal Vikas group from Grand Rapids, who participated in the Satsang and sang bhajans. It was a great motivation for our kids to listen to them and to know that there were other children too who were involved in similar activities. Being appreciated for their good work is a great motivator and the pursuit continues ...

Every month the newsletter will include a column on Balvikas . Keep an eye for "News from Balvikas-Corner" by Bhuvana Natrajan in future issues.
