AUM BHOOR BHUWAH SWAHA ,TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM BHARGO DEVASAYA DHEEMAHI DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT

A family that prays together – stays together!  This program is directed toward middle school and high school students.  Please call Pradip Sagdeo, 324-7641 to for more information.

The Family Prayer is just that: families coming to IACCT at least once a week to pray together and to listen to selections from our vast religious and spiritual literature: Scriptures, Upanishads, Ramayana and Mahabharata..  We hold discourses on Bhagvadgeeta, about our cultural and religious heritage, about our Hindu religion and how to practice it in America.

The Family Prayer is held at 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 am  every Sunday, except for long weekends.

The Family Prayer starts with the chanting of Om three times, Gayatri Mantra ten times, a few prayer shlokas and meditation.  This is followed by a reading or a discourse on the topic chosen by the speaker.  Many of these readings discourses are by middle and high school students born and brought up here.  One of them described the Family Prayer as the meeting where we go to learn about our religion.

The Family Prayer is an excellent opportunity for all Hindu people in our area to share their own knowledge and understanding of our religion, our traditions, our mythology, our epics and the vast treasure of profound spirituality our Rishis left for the humanity to understand and appreciate.

BHAGVADGEETA STUDY at the FAMILY PRAYER

The Family Prayer program at the Temple has embarked upon the study of the Bhagavadgeeta, the divine conversation between Lord Krishna and his disciple Arjun on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, near the New Delhi, the capital of today's Bharat, India.

Study of the Bhagvadgeeta is a cooperative effort, with families attending the program actively participating in the discourses providing their own interpretations of the verses based on their understanding and experiences.  The chanting is led by Pradip Sagdeo, and explanations and commentaries are provided by Dr. Sunder Hattangadi and other participants.

We would like to invite all to attend this divine experience and share your understanding of the philosophy of the Bhagvadgeeta with us.

There will be no Family Prayer meeting on September 19, 2004. .  Family Prayer will resume on September 26, 2004.

We will study verses 4 and 5 of chapter three, named Karmayoga, or the Path of Action.

Listen to the verses here. (Click the "Play Shloka" button on the page.)

Please join us.  If you have, please bring your own copy of the Bhagvadgeeta.  Hope to see you all on coming Sundays.
